Justice Committee to meet with Civil Defence Board

23 DFómh 2012, 13:40

The Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will discuss the role today and future plans of Civil Defence with members of the Civil Defence Board at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 24th October.

Committee Chairman David Stanton, TD, said: “Civil Defence Ireland, the national civil defence organisation of Ireland, is comprised almost entirely of volunteers. It plays a vital role in aiding the full-time emergency services as and when required. Currently there are plans to abolish the board of Civil Defence and return its functions to the Department of Defence. Given the changes envisaged for the organisation, we will have an opportunity tomorrow to consider the current role of the Civil Defence and its future plans.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 11am on Wednesday, 24th October.
