Finance Committee to continue bank hearings

31 DFómh 2012, 14:01

The Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will resume its hearings into the banking sector tomorrow, Thursday, 1st November, 2012 when it meets with the Chairman and Chief Executive of Bank of Ireland.

Ciarán Lynch, TD, Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, said: “The Chairman and Chief Executive of Bank of Ireland will address the Committee on the bank’s operations and functions when we resume our hearings into the banking sector tomorrow.

As part of the Committee’s banking module, we are meeting with the senior executives of Ireland’s banks so that we can get a thorough understanding of the current state of individual Irish banks and the banking sector in general.

Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to question Bank of Ireland’s executives on the most recent developments at the bank, including restructuring and rationalisation and the impact this is having on its banking business and operations, lending, staffing and branch numbers.

In particular, we will also be interested in discussing the bank’s policy on lending and providing credit to businesses and individuals which is so vital for the functioning of our economy.”

This meeting will take place on Thursday, 1st November at 10.30am in Committee Room 3.
