EU Affairs Committee to meet European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs

5 Samh 2012, 15:37

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet the influential Constitutional Affairs Committee of the European Parliament tomorrow afternoon.

5 November 2012

Chair of the Committee, Carlo Cassini MEP, is leading the delegation to Dublin. The Committee deals with institutional matters such as the European Union treaties and the Parliament's rules of procedure, as well as the implications for the institutions of enlargement negotiations.

Chairman of the Committee Dominic Hannigan TD says: “Tomorrow’s meeting is a timely opportunity to engage with this influential Committee in the European Parliament. The provisions introduced by the Lisbon treaty are still being bedded down, with Croatia becoming the 28th Member State of the European Union in July 2013. Furthermore, as the European Union emerges from the current economic difficulties, considerable debate is taking place on enhanced economic and banking policymaking powers for the EU institutions.

“Ireland assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2013, which will comprise a vibrant parliamentary dimension.  We look forward to exchanging views with this important Committee of the European Parliament on how to best deliver a successful presidency for citizens across the European Union.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Tuesday 6 November at 2 p.m. in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000. Committee proceedings can be viewed online via this link.
