The Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will meet with a number of business and civil society groups on Thursday 8th November 2012 to discuss pre-Budget submissions.

Among the group’s attending tomorrow’s meeting are:

Drinks Industry Group of Ireland
National Off-Licence Association
Joint Submission; Irish Heart Foundation and Irish Cancer Society
Charles Stanley-Smith – Smart Taxes Network - introduction of a Site Value Tax
Retail Excellence Ireland
Small Firms Association
Social Justice Ireland
TASC
IBEC
Irish Congress of Trade Unions
Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland

Ciarán Lynch, TD, Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, said: “Tomorrow, we will engage with groups from the business and social pillar on issues raised in their pre-Budget submissions. It is an opportunity for Members to explore various topics of concern and priorities for the groups ahead of next month’s Budget. At our meeting tomorrow we will concentrate on submissions that are related to revenue or fiscal matters while, on Friday, we will consider those submissions which largely relate to social and/or expenditure matters.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 3, Leinster House at 2pm on Thursday 8th November.

Ahead of this meeting, the Minister for Finance Michael Noonan TD will appear before the Committee to brief the Committee on next week’s ECOFIN Council meeting.

Deputy Lynch said: “Minister Noonan will brief the Committee ahead of the Ecofin meeting next Tuesday. This is a very important meeting as it gives Committee members an opportunity to consider the approach taken by Minister ahead of EU Council of Ministers’ meeting. It also allows us to hold the Government to account and play our part in strengthening Oireachtas oversight of EU matters.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 3 at 9.30am.
