Minister of Health to attend Health Committee for the Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2012

8 Samh 2012, 17:19

Minister for Health James Reilly TD will attend the meeting of the Sub-Committee on Health tomorrow, Friday 9th November, 2012 for the committee stage of Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2012.

The Bill aims to amend the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 in relation to membership of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council and in relation to the recognition of professional qualifications obtained outside the State. This includes the implementation of certain provisions of Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of Professional Qualifications, and to provide for related matters.

Committee Chairman Jerry Buttimer TD said: “As well as regulating certain health care providers and their membership, this Bill also transposes provisions from an EU directive which enables recognition of qualifications across EU Member States.
Tomorrow, the Minister will come before the Committee where the Bill will be examined in detail. At this stage, the Bill will receive in depth consideration and it will give members the opportunity to propose and discuss any amendments to this important piece of legislation.”

The meeting starts at 10am on Friday, 9th November in Committee Room 2, LH 2000.
