The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will tomorrow meet with representatives from the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association.

The Committee will hear the ICMSA present a pre-Budget submission and later engage with the representatives on the on-going CAP negotiations.
Vice-Chairman of the Committee Pat Deering TD says: “In what was a tough summer for many farmers, we look forward to discussing the priorities for the ICMSA as we face into this crucial Pre-Budget phase. Our Committee is acutely aware of the role the Irish agri-food sector has to play in Ireland’s economic recovery and we look forward to hearing the perspective of this key agriculture industry stakeholder on Budget 2013 tomorrow.
“As negotiations on the Common Agricultural Policy enter a decisive phase, it is also a timely opportunity for the Committee to hear from the ICMSA representatives on their views on Ireland’s approach to the talks. This forms part of the Committee’s on-going dialogue with the main farming organisations on the CAP negotiations. Earlier in the year, we heard ICMSA advocate that Members States be allowed the maximum amount of flexibility in putting in place payments models that best suit our farming system. They also expressed concerns around the distortion in land prices caused by the current uncertainty around the CAP talks.”
The meeting takes place tomorrow Tuesday 13 November in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 2 pm. It will commence with discussion around a series of EU legislative proposals.

On Thursday 15 November, the Committee will engage with the Irish Farmers’ Assocation and the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association on their pre-Budget submissions.
