Minister for Justice to appear before Justice Committee

26 Samh 2012, 16:35

Minister for Justice and Equality Alan Shatter TD will attend the meeting of the Select Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality tomorrow, Tuesday 27th November, 2012 for the 2012 Supplementary Estimates for Public Services – Vote 20 (Garda Síochána); and Vote 22 (Courts Service).

Committee Chairman David Stanton, TD, said: “While no additional funding is required by the Justice Vote Group in 2012, the supplementary estimates are required to effectively reallocate savings from elsewhere in the Justice Vote Group to offset overruns in the case of the Garda Síochána and Courts Votes. Tomorrow, the Committee will have a chance to consider the supplementary estimates in detail.

“Following this meeting, the Minister will address the Committee ahead of the forthcoming EU Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting and update members on defence issues which were discussed at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting that took place on 19th November. We’re looking forward to our meeting with the Minister which will allow Committee Members to question him in advance of the upcoming meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs meeting, to be held in Brussels on 6th-7th December. Our Committee meeting tomorrow is a valuable opportunity to explore Irish government policy, issues of concern and key priorities in the Justice area with the Minister in advance of the key monthly Justice and Home Affairs meeting.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2pm on Tuesday, 27th November.
