Transport Committee Chairman welcomes announcement of fuel rebate for road hauliers

The Chairman of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications Tom Hayes TD today welcomed the announcement by Minister Michael Noonan, during his Budget 2013 speech, of a diesel rebate for road hauliers.

In its published in October, the Committee recommended consideration an essential user fuel rebate, with the aim of alleviating pressures on the road haulage sector.

Chairman of the Committee Tom Hayes TD says: “Our Committee welcomes the announcement today by Minister Noonan of a diesel rebate for road hauliers, to come into effect from July next year. This measure was a key recommendation in our Report to the Minister, published in October. Our Committee has been concerned about the plight of the road haulage industry in Ireland and, believes that this measure is a significant step in helping secure the long term viability of the industry.”
