Foreign Affairs Committee to resume review of role of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in trade promotion and economic recovery

18 Noll 2012, 16:17

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade will continue its hearings into the role and contribution of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to trade promotion and economic recovery when it meets with Louis Maguire, Chairman, Joint Arab-Irish Chamber of Commerce tomorrow, Wednesday 19th December, 2012.

Committee Chairman, Pat Breen TD said: “As part of our review into the role and contribution of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to trade promotion and economic recovery, the Joint Committee is holding a series of meetings with Departmental officers, representatives of State Agencies, business networks and private sector organisations to gather information on how trade promotion is being coordinated, the Department’s role in that work and how effective that coordination is. The Report will also review the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s high-level strategies in the economic/trade promotion area.

The Joint Arab-Irish Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit organisation set up in 1987, promotes commercial, industrial, tourist and financial relations between Arab countries and the Republic of Ireland. At our meeting tomorrow, we will get that organisation’s perspective on the role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in trade promotion and economic recovery and consider how the Department may coordinate its efforts with business representative organisations to manage, organise and promote international trade.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 1, Leinster House at 2.30pm on Wednesday, 19th December.
