Justice Committee to discuss EU proposal on improving the gender balance among non-executive directors of listed companies.

18 Noll 2012, 14:04

The Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will start off its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 19th December with scrutiny of EU legislative proposal COM92012)614 on improving the gender balance among non-executive directors of listed companies.

Deputy Stanton said: “The purpose of the proposal is to substantially increase the number of women on corporate boards throughout the EU by setting a minimum objective of a 40% presence of the underrepresented sex among the non-executive directors of companies listed on stock exchanges and by requiring companies with fewer women among the nonexecutive directors to introduce pre-established, clear, neutrally formulated and unambiguous criteria in selection procedures for those positions to reach the objective of 40%.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 9.30am on Wednesday 19th December.
