Justice Committee to discuss issue of undocumented migrants in Ireland

18 Noll 2012, 14:09

The issue of undocumented migrants living in Ireland will be discussed by the Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality tomorrow, Wednesday 19th December 2012 when it meets with representatives from the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland.

Committee Chairman Deputy David Stanton said: “We’re looking forward to our meeting tomorrow with representatives from the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland, the national organisation working to promote justice, empowerment and equality for migrant workers and their families. There are an estimated 30,000 undocumented migrants, including children and families, many of whom have been living in Ireland for years. Through its Justice for Undocumented campaign, the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland has worked to support the regularisation of undocumented migrants in Ireland. At our meeting tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to hear about the issues and concerns of undocumented migrants living here. We will also have a chance to discuss the Justice for Undocumented campaign and what it aims to achieve, while it will also allow members to raise any issues or concerns they may have on the matter.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 2, Leinster House after the scrutiny of EU legislative proposal COM92012)614 which starts at 9.30am on Wednesday 19th December.
