PAC to examine development assistance with Department of Foreign Affairs

19 Noll 2012, 12:15

The Committee of Public Accounts will consider Ireland’s Official Development Assistance when it meets with the Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Director General of Irish Aid at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 20th December 2012.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness said: “Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to consider in detail Ireland’s Official Development and International Co-operation programmes. Among the issues we will address are: how the Department evaluates Irish Aid funding; how it tracks and follows up on recommendations it makes; how funding to non-government organisations is verified; and the role of the Department’s Evaluation and Audit Unit. We will be interested in the recent investigation that was carried out into the misappropriation of aid funds in Uganda, in particular the findings and recommendations and the actions being taken to prevent this happening in the future. Our meeting will also give us a chance to examine expenditure by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.”

This meeting starts at 10am on Thursday, 20th December in Committee Room 1, LH 2000.
