The Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs will tomorrow afternoon meet with Paddy Cosgrave, Organiser of the Dublin Web Summit, for a discussion on how youth unemployment might be curbed.

Mr Cosgrave is founder and organiser of the Dublin Web Summit, described as Europe’s largest tech conference. He also organises F.ounders, an annual private gathering for 150 of the world's leading tech company founders.
Chairman of the Committee Dominic Hannigan TD says: “There is no more urgent issue facing Ireland and Europe than that of unemployment, and youth unemployment in particular. Tomorrow afternoon’s meeting with Paddy Cosgrave affords our Committee an opportunity to assess practical steps that might be taken from someone with a strong track record of youth entrepreneurship. As someone working at the coalface of the knowledge economy, Mr Cosgrave has a particular insight into opportunities in the fast paced IT and web sectors.
“While any efforts to curb youth unemployment will be multifaceted, as a Committee we have considered in recent meetings the proposal of a Youth Guarantee for across Europe. Such a Guarantee would be introduced in all Member States which would ensure that all young people up to age 25 receive a quality offer of a job, continued education, an apprenticeship or a traineeship within four months of leaving formal education or becoming unemployed. We look forward to engaging with Mr Cosgrave on this and other potential initiatives to curb the scourge of youth unemployment Europe-wide.”
The meeting takes place tomorrow Thursday 17 January at 2 p.m. in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000.
