Finance Committee to meet with NTMA

23 Ean 2013, 13:23

Officials from the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) will provide an overview of the Irish economy and funding requirements at a meeting of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform tomorrow, Thursday, 24th January 2013.

Among those attending the meeting are: John Corrigan, Chief Executive of the NTMA; Oliver Whelan, Director of Funding and Debt Management; and Brendan Murphy, Director of Finance.

Ciarán Lynch, TD, Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, said: “The NTMA manages assets and liabilities on behalf of the Irish Government. Originally set up to borrow for the Exchequer and manage the National Debt, its remit has been expanded greatly and now includes the management of the National Pensions Reserve Fund, the National Development Finance Agency, the State Claims Agency and NAMA. It obviously plays a key role in the financial and economic management of this country and therefore is in a unique position to provide an in-depth picture of Ireland’s economic situation. Among the issues the Committee will consider are the ongoing borrowing requirements of the State; debt sustainability; the current state of the international bond market; developments in bond yields; credit ratings; prospects for Ireland’s re-entry to the markets; and the recent development of funds to provide equity, credit and investment for Irish SMEs. The meeting tomorrow will give Members a chance to engage with the NTMA and raise any issues or concerns they may have in relation to these matters.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2.15pm on Thursday 24th January.
