Agriculture Committee to meet with Comhairle na Tuaithe

Established in 2004, Comhairle na Tuaithe comprises representatives of the farming organisations, recreational users of the countryside and state bodies with an interest in the countryside.

Chairman of the Committee Andrew Doyle TD says: “Tomorrow’s engagement is part of a series of Committee meetings in which the use of commonage lands are being considered. The broad representation on Comhairle na Tuaithe includes tourism body representatives, recreational users, officials from relevant departments and farm organisation leaders. Since its establishment in 2004, the council have advanced the delivery of a countryside code, in a manner which seeks buy-in from both recreational users and landowners. The presentation will inform our Committee on the recreational and tourism dimension of our countryside and, in particular, what national approach the use of commonage lands might be appropriate.”

The meeting will take place tomorrow Tuesday 29 January in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 2 p.m. The meeting will commence with scrutiny of EU legislative proposals COM(2012)498; COM(2012)535; COM(2012)552, and COM(2012)553.
