Environment Committee to discuss planning policy with Minister Jan O’Sullivan TD

28 Ean 2013, 11:07

Minister of State at the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government with special responsibility for housing Jan O’Sullivan TD will attend the meeting of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht tomorrow, Tuesday, 29th January 2013 to discuss planning issues and policy.

Among the issues which will be addressed tomorrow are:

(i) Mahon Tribunal Recommendation for the establishment of a Planning Regulator: and
(ii) Planning and Development (Planning Enforcement) General Policy Directive 2013

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Michael McCarthy TD said: “The Mahon Tribunal Report makes a series of important recommendations for the planning system – one of the key proposals is the establishment of an independent planning regulator. Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to discuss this recommendation with Minister O’Sullivan. We are particularly interested in considering what progress has been made to date in this matter and teasing out what kind of powers any planning regulator would have, the scope and nature of these powers and the extent of its ability to conduct enquiries. It is also a chance for us to consider the Planning and Development (Planning Enforcement) General Policy Directive 2013. We’re looking forward to this meeting with the Minister where we can discuss measures to ensure we have a fair, transparent and accountable planning system in this country.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2.15pm tomorrow, Tuesday 29th January 2013.
