The Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will meet with the Secretary General of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow, Tuesday, 29th January, 2013 to discuss the six-monthly EU Scrutiny Report of that Department.
Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “Under the terms of the European Union (Scrutiny Act) 2002, Ministers submit reports to the Oireachtas every six months on developments at European Union level in their area of responsibility. This Report summarises the key legislative and policy developments during the six month period January – June 2012 during which Denmark held the Presidency of the European Union.
Tomorrow we will meet with the Secretary General of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to discuss the report in more detail. It is a chance for the Committee to be updated on the principal developments in the policy areas which fall within the responsibility of the Department at EU level.
Among the issues in which we are particularly interested are the Smart Regulation Agenda; COSME; Horizon 2020; and State Aid Modernisation. The February Competitiveness Council adopted conclusions on a future smart regulation agenda with a strong focus on end-users: businesses, especially SMEs and micro-enterprises, consumers and public administrations, while following a public debate, the May Competitiveness Council reached a partial general approach on \"Horizon 2020\", the proposed framework programme for funding research and innovation for the years 2014-2020. The May Council also took note of a presentation by Commissioner Joaquín Almunia on the communication regarding the modernisation of the EU's state aid policy, published by the Commission on 8 May 2012. We’re looking forward to considering these issues in greater depth at our meeting tomorrow.”
This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 29th January 2013, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 1.30pm.
