Jobs Committee to discuss Action Plan for Jobs with Minister Bruton

25 Feabh 2013, 14:36

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD will appear before the Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow, Tuesday, 26th February, 2013 to discuss the outcome of the Action Plan for Jobs 2012 and details of the Action Plan for Jobs 2013.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “The Government’s Action Plan for Jobs 2013 contains 333 actions to be implemented in 2013 by 16 Government Departments and 46 agencies to improve supports for job creating businesses and remove the barriers to employment creation across the economy. Among the measures included in the new action plan are a JobsPlus initiative where over two years the State will pay €1 of every €4 it costs an employer to recruit a long-term unemployed person off the Live Register.

“Our Committee is committed to playing our part in finding new potential solutions which integrate social protection, education and job creation measures to get people back to work. We recently published a Report, Creating Policies That Work – Actions to Address Youth and Long-Term Unemployment, which takes a three-pronged approach to the jobs crisis with recommendations to keep young people and jobseekers engaged with the jobs market through work placement, training and education; focus on securing funding for investment and job creation; and match jobseekers with suitable jobs, with the co-operation of the public and private sectors.

“Tomorrow, Committee Members will have a chance to discuss the Government’s Action Plan in detail with the Minister, consider the various measures and how they will work in practice, raise any issues or concerns they may have in terms of job creation and examine how our report can complement the Action Plan for Jobs.”

This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 26th February 2013, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 2.15pm.
