Health Committee to begin hearings on childhood poverty

11 Márta 2013, 16:12

The Committee on Health and Children will begin a series of hearings on tackling childhood poverty tomorrow, Tuesday, 12th March 2013 when it meets with Toby Wolfe, Acting Director, Startstrong; June Tinsley, Policy Officer, Barnardos; and Stuart Duffin, Director of Policy and Programmes, One Family.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Tomorrow, the Committee will meet with a number of stakeholders and interested parties as we start our series of hearings on tackling childhood poverty. Childhood poverty is an issue which is of interest and concern to our committee.

At our meeting tomorrow we will receive an update on the issue of childhood poverty from various groups working in the area. We will be interested in hearing from them on the types of initiatives they feel are necessary to address the problem of poverty among children. It will also provide a chance for Committee members to discuss and consider what measures can be taken to help alleviate the problem of childhood poverty and raise any issues or concerns they may have.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, 12th March, 2013 at 5pm in Committee Room 2, LH 2000.
