The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow meets with Department Officials to further scrutinise a series of EU legislative proposals.
20 March 2013
The proposals relate to the pan-European deployment of an alternative fuels infrastructure ( COM(2013)18) and proposals relating to the Fourth Railway Package –(COM(2013)26; COM(2013)27; COM(2013)28; COM(2013)29; COM(2013)30; COM(2013)31)
Chairman of the Committee Tom Hayes TD says: \"Committees are playing an ever more important role in the oversight of EU legislation. We look forward to welcoming officials from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport who will assist the Committee in further scrutinising a series of EU legislative proposals. At a meeting last week our Committee agreed that EU proposals on the deployment of an alternative fuels infrastructure may have implications for national energy regulation policy, infrastructure networks and for investment in ports and as such, warranted further scrutiny. We also agreed that proposals relating to the Fourth Railway Package warrant further scrutiny. Department Officials are expected to provide the Committee with an overview of the package of measures, details on the specific implications of these proposals on the rail sector and information on the future structure of rail services.\"
The meeting takes place tomorrow Thursday 21 March at 10 am in Committee Room 3, LH 2000. Committee proceedings can be followed online here.
