25 Márta 2013, 12:13

The effectiveness of the State-funded, enterprise-led training body, Skillnets, and its relevance to the current and future skills needs of enterprise and the workforce will be examined by the Committee on the Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow, Tuesday, 26th March 2013.

The use of “conversion courses” as an effective policy response in filling skills gaps and labour market activation will also be on the Committee’s agenda when it meets with Alan Nuzum, CEO, and Dave Flynn, Programme Support Manager, Skillnets.

The Committee will also meet with Dr Lorcán Ó hÓbáin, Programme Manager, ManagementWorks to discuss the role of the ManagementWorks initiative in terms of boosting the management capability of SME owners and managers in sustaining and growing their business.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “As the Committee with a remit in the area of jobs, enterprise and innovation, it is important that we look at and consider the various State initiatives in relation to job creation, training, education and enterprise development to see if they are fit for purpose and are serving the needs for which they were set up. We are looking forward to our meeting tomorrow with the executives from Skillnets and the ManagementWorks initiative where we can consider the conditions and policies that are required in terms of training and education to equip people to participate fully in the workforce and to foster business and enterprise. We are fully committed to working in close consultation with State Agencies, stakeholders and Departments to promote policies that create employment and get people into the workforce.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 1.30pm tomorrow, Tuesday 26th March 2013.
