Environment Committee seeks submissions on climate change bill

27 Márta 2013, 15:45

The Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht is seeking submissions from interested individuals and groups on the Heads of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill.

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Michael McCarthy TD said: “The Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan TD has sent the Heads of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill to our committee for our consideration.  We are looking forward to working with the Minister and his department in helping to formulate policy on this very important issue.

“We will also be very interested in hearing from interested parties who wish to contribute to the debate on the issue of formulating climate change legislation. The submissions we receive will feed into this important piece of legislation and will inform the report we intend to submit to the Government by mid-2013. The Committee will consider these written submissions and may decide to invite a number of contributors to public hearings should it feel that this is necessary. The closing date for receipt of submissions is 5pm Tuesday, 30th April, 2013.

“Our report, and the policy analysis by the National Economic and Social Council Secretariat, will be key inputs for consideration by Government in adopting a national policy position on the transition to a low-carbon future, and finalising the introduction of climate legislation in the second half of 2013.”

Written submissions should be submitted to and received by Eugene Ó Cruadhlaoich Uasal, Cléireach don Choiste, Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Kildare House, Kildare Street, Baile Átha Cliath 2 or email eugene.ocruadhlaoich@oireachtas.ie not later than 5.00 pm on 30 April 2013.
