The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow afternoon continue its consideration of petitions received from members of the public. Committee proceedings will commence with the election of a Vice-Chairman.

26 March 2013

The Committee is scheduled to examine petitions on the following topics tomorrow:

  • Percieved inappropriate standards related to dive industry legislation;
  • Change in mandatory sentencing for murder convictions;
  • The side effects of Roaccutane, a drug used to treat acne
  • Microwave Sickness/Electrosensitivity
  • Concerns related to fishing legislation

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says: “The Oireachtas petitions system is a direct channel for individual citizens and groups across Ireland to influence the parliamentary agenda. Creating a petition is simple and the process has been designed to be open, user-friendly and accessible to all. Tomorrow our Committee will have an opportunity to carefully consider a diverse series of petitions received, and how best to advance the concerns and suggestions in relation to delivery of public services.\"

The meeting takes place Wednesday 27 March in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 4 pm, and will commence in public session with the election of a Vice-Chairman. On considering petitions in private, public proceedings will re-commence at 5pm and can be viewed online  here.
