Finance Committee to review EU’s Annual Growth Survey 2013

9 Aib 2013, 14:20

The Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will review the European Commission’s Annual Growth Survey 2013 when it meets with officials from the European Commission Representation in Ireland tomorrow, Wednesday 10th April 2013.

The Annual Growth Survey for 2013 launches the 2013 European semester for economic policy coordination, which ensures Member States align their budgetary and economic policies with the Stability and Growth Pact and the Europe 2020 strategy. The Commission recommends focusing on the same five priorities that were identified in last year's Survey:

• Pursuing differentiated, growth-friendly fiscal consolidation
• Restoring normal lending to the economy
• Promoting growth and competitiveness for today and tomorrow
• Tackling unemployment and the social consequences of the crisis
• Modernising public administration

Liam Twomey, TD, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, said: “We’re looking forward to our meeting with representatives from the European Commission Representation in Ireland. Having undergone a severe economic and financial crisis, not only in Ireland, but throughout Europe, it is important that we chart a path towards recovery and sustainable growth. Tomorrow, the Committee will have an opportunity to examine the growth survey in more detail with the European Commission’s representation in Europe and consider how it may address the causes of the economic and financial crisis and restore growth. It is also a chance for Members to raise any issues or concerns they may have in relation to the growth survey.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2pm on Wednesday, 10th April 2013.
