The Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade will discuss the work of aid agency GOAL and University College Cork’s Centre for Global Development at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 24th April 2013.
Committee Chairman Pat Breen: “We are looking forward to our meeting with Barry Andrews, the new chief executive of aid agency GOAL. A former Minister of State for Children and Youth Affairs for the Irish Government from 2008 to 2011 and a barrister, Mr Andrews was appointed to the role last year. The Committee will be very interested in discussing with Mr Andrews his vision for the organisation, the approach he proposes to take as chief executive and what he sees as the key priorities and challenges for the agency.
We would also like to welcome UCC’s Centre for Global Development. The Centre which was launched in May 2011 is the main vehicle for UCC’s global development strategy and is the outward expression and umbrella forum of the wide range of development work with which UCC staff, students and personnel are involved. Committee Members will be interested in getting an update on the work that the Centre is doing.”
The Committee will also resume its discussions on a motion on the case of Sergei Magnitsky as well as discussing the Arms Trade Treaty.
The meeting will start in Committee Room 1, Leinster House at 2.30pm on Wednesday, 24th April2013.
