Finance Committee to discuss property tax collection with Chairman of Revenue Commissioners

28 Beal 2013, 17:17

Property Tax collection will be the focus of the Committee on Finance and Public Expenditure tomorrow, Wednesday 29th May 2013 when it meets with the Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners Josephine Feehily.

28 May 2013

Committee Vice Chairman Liam Twomey TD said: “With the deadline for payment of the Local Property Tax  due to pass at midnight, we will have a chance to discuss the collection of the tax with the Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners at our meeting tomorrow.

Essentially this is an opportunity for the Committee to get an overview of the collection process with revenue officials and we expect that Revenue will have facts and figures at hand to update the Committee on progress in relation to the Local Property Tax collection tomorrow.

Among the issues that are likely to be discussed at the meeting are:

  • Details of the contract service provider and cost of administration of the Local Property Tax in 2013;
  • Number of households liable for property tax;
  • Number of households in local authority ownership which are liable;
  • Number of houses in the ownership of individuals who are liable;
  • Number of houses that are owned by people that own multiple properties;
  • Total number of houses registered;
  • Amount of funds received in respect of the property tax by May 28th; and
  • Amount of returns paid by wage deduction and/or Social Welfare Allowance.

Our meeting tomorrow gives Committee Members a chance to engage with Revenue on a broad range of aspects in relation to the Local Property Tax.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 3.30pm on Wednesday, 29 th May 2013.
