Jobs Committee to consider R&D landscape in Ireland with Minister Sherlock

3 Feabh 2014, 11:35

The research and development landscape in Ireland will be on the agenda of the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow, Tuesday 4th February when it meets with Minister of State for Research and Innovation Sean Sherlock.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “Tomorrow, we will receive an update on the research and development landscape in Ireland from Minister of State Sherlock. As the Committee with a remit for jobs and innovation, we are aware that investment in research and development and innovation is vital to Ireland moving to a high-tech economy delivering quality, sustainable jobs. Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to examine where Ireland is placed internationally in terms of fostering research and development and consider measures that could be implemented to make Ireland a more attractive location in which to carry out successful and profitable research and development activities. Other issues we could explore are access for Irish companies to Horizon 2020, the European Union’s new €79 billion programme for research and development and the Committee’s 2012 report reviewing ICT skills demand in Ireland. We will also be interested in hearing Minister Sherlock’s views on the possibility of Ireland becoming a member of the scientific research institute CERN.”

This meeting will start at 1.30pm tomorrow, Tuesday, 4th February 2014 in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
