The Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will tomorrow meet with Minister for European Affairs Paschal Donohoe TD to consider Ireland’s approach at the upcoming meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC), to be held in Brussels on 11 February.

4 February 2014

Deputy Hannigan continues: “Our Committee meeting tomorrow is a valuable opportunity to explore Irish government policy with Minister Donohoe in advance of the key monthly General Affairs Council meeting. The next GAC will be presented with the programme of work for the Greek Presidency. Their Presidency is aiming to build on some of the gains of the past year, in further promoting economic growth and job creation, coupled with securing financial stability and more coordinated economic governance.  The Greeks are also expected to focus on enhancing civic and society engagement in the EU, through policies and initiatives in response to citizens’ everyday problems, concerns and insecurities. Tomorrow’s meeting will provide an opportunity to exchange views with Minister Donohoe in advance of this important GAC meeting.\"

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday  5 February at 10 am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000. Committee proceedings can be followed here.
