Health Committee to focus on neurological health issues

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children will discuss neurological health issues tomorrow, Tuesday, 11th February 2014 when it meets with Magdalen Rogers, NAI Development Manager, Neurological Alliance of Ireland; Professor Orla Hardiman, Professor of Neurology & Head of the Academic Unit of Neurology, Trinity College Dublin and Consultant Neurologist, Beaumont Hospital; and Dr Colin Doherty, Consultant Neurologist at St James’s Hospital and National Clinical Lead for the Epilepsy Programme.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “More than 700,000 people in Ireland are living with a neurological condition. Neurological conditions affect the brain and spinal cord and include many common conditions such as stroke, migraine, epilepsy and acquired brain injury as well as rare and genetically transmitted conditions. Tomorrow we will receive a briefing on neurological health services in Ireland and the provision of care and support to people with neurological conditions.”

The meeting will start at 5.15pm in Committee Room 2, Leinster House tomorrow, Tuesday, 11th February 2014.
