Jobs Committee to focus on EU issues and crowdfunding

10 Feabh 2014, 10:51

Crowdfunding and a number of EU matters will be on the agenda of the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 11th February.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “Anecdotally, many businesses, particularly small businesses and start-ups, say they are finding it difficult to access credit. Some start-ups are now looking beyond traditional sources of credit and tomorrow we will have an opportunity to consider an emerging source of funding for business. Crowdfunding is where individuals, usually through the internet or on social media platforms, pool their resources to raise finance for a business venture. At our meeting tomorrow we will hear from representatives from crowdfunding platform LinkedFinance as well as business borrowers.”

Before the Committee considers the issue of crowdfunding, it will focus on a number of EU legislative proposals:

Schedule A: COM(2013)813(final) on the protection of undisclosed know-how and business information (trade secrets) against their unlawful acquisition, use and disclosure.
Schedule B: COM(2013)688; COM(2013)689; COM(2013)718; COM(2013)746; COM(2013)802; COM(2013)835; COM(2013)926; COM(2014)3; EWN(2013) L 316-8; EWN(2013)C 371-19; EWN(2013)C 372-21;

This meeting will start at 1.30pm tomorrow, Tuesday, 11th February 2014 in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.
