Health Committee to conclude hearings on tobacco packaging bill

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children will continue its hearings on the Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill 2013 tomorrow, Thursday, 13 February 2014.

The schedule for tomorrow’s meeting is:

Session A: 11 am

  • PJ Carroll; John Player; JTI Ireland; and Forest Éireann


Session B: 12.45 pm

  • The Law Society of Ireland

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Tomorrow we will conclude our pre-legislative hearings on this Bill which proposes to introduce standardised packaging for all tobacco products and also determine the size and position of health warnings on cigarette packets. The Joint Committee will hear the views of a number of cigarette companies, smokers' lobby group Forest Éireann and representatives of the Law Society of Ireland on the various measures contained in the Heads of the Bill and members will also have an opportunity to raise any issues they may have.”

The meeting will start at 11 am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House tomorrow, Thursday, 13 February 2014.
