Public Service Oversight Committee to meet Minister Alan Shatter TD

The Minister for Justice and Equality Alan Shatter TD will tomorrow appear before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions to consider on-going developments related to security and suspected surveillance at the offices of Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).

The meeting with Minister Shatter follows detailed discussion by the Committee and Members of the GSOC last week.

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says: \"Following last week’s meeting with the Garda Ombudsman Commissioners, the Committee noted its grave concerns about the serious questions that remain unanswered in relation to these developments. We agreed to invite the Minister for Justice and Equality Alan Shatter TD to address the Committee on these developments and to assess the approach he and his Department propose to take to respond to the concerns raised. The Committee is undertaking this public process conscious of the need to secure public confidence in the administration of justice.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 19 February in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 4 pm. The meeting can be viewed live on Oireachtas UPC Channel 207 and online via this link.
