Environment, Culture and Gaeltacht Committee to meet Chairperson Designate of the Arts Council

The Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht will meet with the Chairperson Designate of the Arts Council Sheila Pratschke tomorrow, Tuesday, 25th February 2014.

Michael McCarthy, Cathaoirleach of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, said: “The Arts Council of Ireland is the Irish government agency for developing the arts. It works in partnership with artists, arts organisations, public policy makers and others to build a central place for the arts in Irish life. Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Tomorrow will be our first opportunity to engage with the Chairperson Designate of the Arts Council Sheila Pratschke where she will have an opportunity to outline what he sees as the priorities and challenges for the Council in the immediate period ahead and into the future. Committee members will have a chance to raise any issues they may have on the Arts Council.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2.15pm on Tuesday, 25th February 2014 with scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals:

Schedule A:
COM (2013) 697; Proposal for a Council decision on the position to be taken by the Union in the Administrative Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe regarding the draft Regulation on uniform provisions concerning the recyclability of motor vehicles;

COM (2013) 758; Proposal for a Council decision concerning the placing on the market for cultivation, in accordance with Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of a maize product (Zea mays L., line 1507) genetically modified for resistance to certain lepidopteran pests;
