You are invited to attend, or send a representative, to the launch of a report by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection on Schools Admissions legislation. The Committee will present the report to the Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn TD on the Plinth in Leinster House.

4 March 2014

As part of the pre-legislative scrutiny process, the Committee invited submissions from interested individuals and groups and hosted a series of public hearings on the draft legislation.

Event: Launch of ‘Report on the Draft General Scheme of an Education (Admissions to Schools) Bill 2013?
Location: The Plinth, Leinster House?
Date: Wednesday 5 March 2014
Time: 12:45 pm

Committee Chair Joanna Tuffy says: “This important piece of legislation sets out to regulate the admission of children to primary and post-primary schools, with the overarching goal of ensuring fair, consistent and transparent schools admissions processes. As legislators with responsibility in this area, we engaged with a wide range of perspectives on the potential merits and flaws within the draft legislation. Tomorrow will see the publication of a report which reflects some of the concerns raised at the hearings, and the issues raised in the report may also be relevant in the context of the future consideration of the Bill by the Dáil and Seanad.\"

Following the photocall, Deputy Tuffy and other Committee Members will be available for questions. The report will be published online on the Oireachtas website www.oireachtas.ie following the event.
