The Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality is seeking submissions from interested groups and individuals on the effectiveness of legislation related to the oversight of An Garda Síochána.
Committee Chairman David Stanton, TD, said: “Dáil Éireann has requested that the Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality to review the effectiveness of the legislation related to oversight of An Garda Síochána. We are now inviting submissions from interested groups or individuals on the effectiveness of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 where it relates to the oversight of An Garda Síochána, including, in particular, the powers and remit of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission.
The Committee would welcome submissions on the relevant parts of the legislation. We will consider any written submissions received and may decide to invite a number of contributors to public hearings should the Committee feel that this is necessary. Those submissions and hearings may help inform any report we will forward to the Minister of Justice, Equality and Defence.”
