Presentation to Irish Centre London by Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht

10 Márta 2014, 10:59

You are invited to attend, or send a representative, to the official presentation of a donation of books, CDs and DVDs to the Irish Centre, London by the Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht to assist it in establishing a Library at the centre.

It takes place on Wednesday, 12th March 2014 at 6pm in the Coffee Dock in Leinster House.

Michael McCarthy, Cathaoirleach of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, said: “The Irish Centre in London is establishing a library that will be a resource to the Irish community in London. At its meeting on 19 November 2013, the Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht agreed to sponsor a once-off book donation scheme among Members and staff of the Houses and decided that it would ask each Member of the Houses and each staff member to donate one book to the library in the Irish Centre in Camden. We also asked a number of Irish publishers and institutions to donate books, CDs and DVDs to this worthy cause and the response has been phenomenal. To date, the Committee has collected in excess of 6,000 books and 1,000 CDs and DVDs of Irish interest and has also secured subscriptions from over 30 Irish newspapers and magazines, free shelving and a digitised computer system for the library all free of charge. In addition to this, An Post is shipping the books and recordings from the Houses of the Oireachtas to London free of charge. On Wednesday, the Committee will officially present the donation to the Irish Centre.”
