Jobs Committee to consider work of the Injuries Board

31 Márta 2014, 10:43

The Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will focus on the work of the Injuries Board at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, 1st April 2014.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “The Injuries Board has been in existence for 10 years, having been set up in 2004 by the Irish Government to assess claims for compensation for anyone who has been in an accident and suffered an injury. A self-funded entity, InjuriesBoard.ie assesses claims for compensation without the need for many of the costs and fees usually associated with personal injury claims. It is an opportune time for Committee Members to get an update on the Injuries Board’s activities and achievements after 10 years of operations. In particular, we will be interested in assessing the Board’s impact on the Irish economy in terms of cost savings, reductions in the number of litigations and a decrease in the timeline for compensation. Since the Board was set up, it has significantly reduced the amount of time it takes to resolve a claim from roughly three years to nine months, in most cases. The Committee will also be interested to hear of any further opportunities to reduce insurance costs and ease the burden for consumers and business in Ireland.”

This meeting will start at 1.30pm on 1st April 2014 in Committee Room 2.
