Environment Committee to discuss a zero waste approach to water

7 Aib 2014, 10:51

A zero waste approach to water will be the focus of the Environment Committee when it meets with Dr Seán Ó hÓgáin and Liam McCarton from Dublin Institute of Technology tomorrow, Tuesday, 8th April 2014.

Michael McCarthy TD, Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, said: “There has been an increased demand for water for domestic and commercial use in recent years. A key approach to meeting this demand has been to increase supply. However, water conservation also enables demand to be catered for and water saving technologies will play a greater role into the future. Developing and promoting sustainable technologies for water production and wastewater treatment will help us move towards a zero waste approach to water, while also addressing a source of environmental pollution. Tomorrow, we will consider this issue in greater detail with two lecturers from DIT specialising in water and wastewater analysis, Dr Seán Ó hÓgáin and Liam Mc Carton.

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2.15pm tomorrow, Tuesday 8th April 2014.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
