15 Aib 2014, 12:49

The priorities and challenges facing the Department Environment, Community and Local Government for the next few years will be the focus of the Environment Committee when it meets the Department’s Secretary General tomorrow, Wednesday, 16th April 2014.

It will also consider the EU Scrutiny Report for July-December 2013.

Michael McCarthy TD, Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, said: “The Department Environment, Community and Local Government has a broad, diverse and challenging agenda concerning protection of the environment, supporting infrastructural development that is of a high quality and regionally balanced, and working in partnership with local government and other local development bodies in serving communities. Tomorrow we will have an opportunity to concentrate on the priorities and challenges facing the Department in the coming years with the Secretary General of  the Department.”

Before the Committee meets with the Secretary General, it will consider the EU Scrutiny Report for July-December 2013. This report has two parts. The first part sets out the principal developments in the policy areas which fall within the responsibility of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government at EU level, and the second part provides an update on the EU legislative proposals from July to December 2013.

This meeting will start in Committee Room 1, Leinster House at 10am tomorrow, Wednesday 16th April 2014.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
