Credit Review Office and Chambers Ireland to address Jobs Committee on SME financing

2 Beal 2014, 11:55

The Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will continue its focus on access to finance for small and medium sized enterprises when it meets with representatives from the Credit Review Office and Chambers Ireland on Tuesday, 6th May 2014.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “On Tuesday we will continue with our hearings on access to finance for small and medium sized enterprises. Our Committee has identified the availability of funding and supports for SMEs as a key priority in national efforts to achieve economic recovery.  The Committee is keen to establish the current position in relation to lending by financial institutions and to ascertain what is being done to increase the flow of credit. The Credit Review Office has been set up to help SME or Farm borrowers who have had an application for credit refused, reduced or withdrawn, and who feel that they have a viable business proposition. At our meeting, the Committee will be updated on the work of the Credit Review Office, particularly the number of refused loans which have been referred to the Credit Review Office and the number of these loans which have granted following review.

“Chambers Ireland is Ireland's largest business organisation with a network of Chambers of Commerce in every major town and region in the country and it has a unique insight into the business community. For this reason, we will be keen to get that organisation’s perspective on the provision of necessary finance to SMEs, whether it is through bank lending, private equity or State supports, to allow them to grow and create jobs.”

This meeting will start at 1.30pm on Tuesday, 6th May 2014 in Committee Room 2.
