Health Committee to discuss IMO Help us to Help More Campaign

27 Beal 2014, 14:55

The Irish Medical Organisation’s ‘Help us to Help More Campaign’ will be on the agenda of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children today, 27th May 2014 when it meets with representatives from the IMO.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “This campaign by the Irish Medical Organisation is designed to highlight the important role played by General Practice is delivering healthcare. According to the IMO, every year there are over 22 million clinical consultations between GPs and their patients in Ireland making General Practice the most frequently consulted part of the Irish health services. Among the issues the campaign is trying to promote are a five-fold increase in the portion of the health budget spent on General Practice with a corresponding plan for increased patient services, a commitment to ensuring the preservation of a community based, same-day appointment service for General Practice and an agreed strategy for the development of General Practice in Ireland over the coming decade with a particular focus on extending the range of services provided through General Practice. Today, representatives from the IMO will have an opportunity to update the Committee on the campaign to date and it is also a chance for members to discuss the campaign in more detail and raise any issues they may have.”

This meeting will be held in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 5.15pm on Tuesday, 27th May 2014.
