Foreign Affairs Committee to consider motion on EU aid

28 Beal 2014, 17:12

The Dáil Select Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade will tomorrow consider a motion on EU aid to developing countries.

28 May 2014

The motion to be debated, which was referred to the Select Committee by Dáil Éireann on 6 May 2014, is as follows:

Proposal that Dáil Éireann approves the ratification by Ireland of the Internal Agreement concerning the 11th European Development Fund, signed in Luxembourg on 24th June, 2013.

Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs Joe Costello TD will be in attendance.

Chairman of the Committee Pat Breen TD says: “The European Union is collectively the world’s largest donor and the European Development Fund constitutes a significant part of the total aid budget. The Fund is governed by the Cotonou Agreement, which commits recipient countries to cooperation and dialogue with the EU on good governance, human rights and democratic principles and the rule of law. The European Development Fund is funded outside the EU budget by EU Member States and over the next seven year cycle (2014 to 2020), it is proposed that Ireland’s contribute approximately €286.77 million, or 0.94% of the budget.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Thursday 29 May at 10:30 am in Committee Room 3, LH 2000. It can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
