Health & Children Committee to discuss work of Comhairle na nÓg and National Youth Council

28 Beal 2014, 14:47

The Joint Committee on Health and Children will meet with Comhairle na nÓg National Executive and the National Youth Council of Ireland tomorrow, Thursday 29th May 2014 to discuss youth work in Ireland.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Comhairle na nÓg are child and youth councils in the 34 local authorities of the country, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies, while the National Youth Council of Ireland is the representative body for national voluntary youth work organisations in Ireland. Youth work has played an enormous role in developing and enhancing the lives of young people. We’re looking forward to meeting with both organisations tomorrow to discuss youth work in Ireland. As well as getting an update on the work of both organisations, it is an opportunity to get their perspectives on the development of youth work in Ireland, discuss the goals and visions both organisations have for the sector and consider the challenges facing the youth work sector.”

This meeting will be held in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 9.30am on Thursday, 29th May 2014.

Committee proceedings can be followed online here.

Proceedings will also be carried on UPC channel 207. Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
