Jobs Committee to continue hearings on Job creation and business growth in town centres

23 Meith 2014, 10:24

Chambers Ireland and RGDATA will address the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow, Tuesday, 24th June 2014 to as part of its hearings on measures to support business growth and job creation in town and village centres.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “Tomorrow, we will continue our hearings on measures to support business growth and job creation and their retention in town and village centres when we will hear from representatives from Chambers Ireland and RGDATA.

Chambers Ireland is Ireland's largest business organisation with a network of Chambers of Commerce in every major town and region in the country and it has a unique insight into the business community. The Retail Grocery Dairy & Allied Trades Association - RGDATA - is the representative association for over 4,000 independent family owned grocery shops, convenience stores, forecourt stores and supermarkets in Ireland.

For this reason, we will be keen to get both organisations’ perspective on the various measures and guidelines they would like to see implemented to attract shoppers, boost trade and breathe new life into town centres which in turn will lead to business growth and job creation.

It’s also a chance for Committee Members to consider the concerns of retailers and the challenges they face in sustaining, developing and growing businesses in town and village centres.”

The meeting with Chambers Ireland and RGDATA will be followed by a discussion on the Employment Permits (Amendment) Bill 2014 with NASC (The Irish Immigrant Support Centre).

This meeting will start at 1.30pm on Tuesday, 24th June 2014 in Committee Room 2 with scrutiny of EU legislative proposals.
