23 Meith 2014, 14:35

TDs and Senators will launch this year’s Houses of the Oireachtas hill walk, tomorrow Tuesday 24 June at 1 pm in Merrion Square Park, Dublin 2.

23 June 2014

The launch will feature TDs and Senators from all parties wearing hill walking gear and equipment. Photographers and TV Cameras are invited to attend the event and should meet at the Merrion Street entrance to the park at 12:50 pm tomorrow.

This Sunday, TDs, Senators and friends will climb the Macgillycuddy Reeks as part of the 2014 Houses of the Oireachtas hill walk, with proceeds going to CARI.

Over 25 years, CARI has helped thousands of children and families deal with, respond to and recover from the trauma of child sexual abuse.

Minister Jimmy Deenihan TD is chair of the cross-party hillwalking group, which also comprises Deputies Eric Byrne TD and Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD and Senators Brian Ó Domhnaill and Catherine Noone.

Deputy Deenihan says: “On Sunday 29 June, Oireachtas Members, staff and friends will take in the stunning views of the Macgillycuddy Reeks during a variety of hikes for all abilities. This year’s event is being organised to raise funds for CARI, the only national voluntary organisation providing specialised therapy and support to children, families and groups affected by child sexual abuse. Fundraising is already underway for a most worthy cause. The walks will be led by Mountaineering Ireland and we are particularly grateful to CEO Karl Boyle and his team for their continued support of this hugely enjoyable annual event.”
To date the Oireachtas Walk has raised over €20,000 for worthy causes.
