24 Meith 2014, 15:04

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow afternoon consider another batch of public petitions received. Some of the petitions for consideration tomorrow relate to:

24 June 2014

  • Regulation of Legal Profession (Mr Colm Murphy and 12 Supporting Petitioners)
  • Examination of conduct of Child and Family Agency (formerly HSE) and its unqualified subcontractors and Director of Advocacy Office (Ms Christine O’Brien)
  • Investigation of medical treatment in Waterford Regional Hospital and the Medical Centre in Kilkenny, Cork University Hospital and also the Medical Council of Ireland (Mr Martin Morris)
  • Public Access to Dáil and Seanad (Mr Desmond FitzGerald)

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says: “Our Committee looks forward to carefully considering petitions received from members of the public on a range of issues, including those calling for reform of the legal profession, an examination into the conduct of the HSE in relation to child welfare, medical treatment in the Southeast and public access to the Dáil and Seanad.”

“The Oireachtas petitions system is a direct channel for individual citizens and groups across Ireland to influence the parliamentary agenda. Creating a petition is simple and the process has been designed to be open, user-friendly and accessible to all. There is a standard form which we request all petitioners to complete, which is available at petitions.oireachtas.ie and can be completed and submitted online, emailed or sent by post.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 25 June in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 4 pm. It will commence in private session and is expected to revert to public session at 4:30 pm. Public proceedings can be viewed online here.
