Transport Committee to consider impact of Luas works on city centre business

24 Meith 2014, 17:29

Representatives from the National Transport Authority will tomorrow appear before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to consider the impact of the Luas works on the commercial life of Dublin city.

24 June 2014

Gerry Murphy, CEO of the National Transport Authority, will also update the Committee on proposed investments in transport infrastructure in the Greater Dublin area and in other Irish cities.

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “We look forward to engaging with Gerry Murphy tomorrow on the ongoing works on the cross city Luas, which will be a valuable addition to Dublin’s public transport infrastructure when completed. The Committee notes the consultation with local city centre business representatives during the works, and will be keen to establish the extent to which the project construction is impacting on the commercial life of the city. The Committee will also be anxious to question the NTA on how the project is progressing and whether there are any delays envisaged at this stage. With the NTA also due to update the Committee on planned transport initiatives in other Irish cities, the Committee will wish to assess whether the appropriate balance has been struck between investment in the Greater Dublin area and the rest of the country.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 25 June at 9:30 am in Committee Room 4, LH 2000. The meeting can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
