Justice Committee to consider motion on European regulation

1 Iúil 2014, 11:42

Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald will attend the Justice Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, 2nd July 2014 when it will discuss a Motion on the Proposed approval by Dáil and Seanad Éireann for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the establishment of ‘Eurodac’, a central database for the comparison of fingerprints of asylum seekers, and for the effective application of the Dublin Regulation.

Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “The Eurodac system was established by the European Union for the comparison of fingerprints of asylum applicants and illegal immigrants. Its objective in the asylum process is to facilitate the application of the Dublin II Regulation/Dublin Convention which makes it possible to determine the State responsible for examining an asylum application.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2 at 12 noon on Wednesday, 2nd July 2014.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
