The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine meets with the Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Tom Moran tomorrow afternoon to discuss his Department’s Six-Monthly EU Scrutiny Report.

7 July 2014

Committee Chairman Andrew Doyle says: “Ministers are required to submit reports to the Oireachtas every six months on developments at European Union level in their area of responsibility. The Departmental Six-Monthly EU Scrutiny Report we will examine with the Secretary General tomorrow is for the July to December 2013 period.  It summarises the key legislative and policy developments during those six months.

“Under the direction of the Lithuanian Presidency, progress was made in policy on plant health, veterinary and food safety issues. The political agreements on the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) and the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), which were secured during the Irish Presidency, were also advanced. We look forward to engaging with Mr Moran on the key developments in what was an important six months in the areas of agriculture and fisheries for the European Union.
