Transport Committee to meet Chairs Designate of CIÉ, Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann

8 Iúil 2014, 12:35

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow meets with the Chairs Designate of Bus Éireann, Iarnród Éireann and the CIÉ group.

8 July 2014

Aidan Murphy of Bus Éireann, Philip Gaffney of Iarnrod Éireann and Vivienne Jupp of CIÉ will address the Committee separately. It is anticipated that each engagement will last approximately 40 minutes.

????????airman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. CIÉ is Ireland's national public transport provider, with Iarnród Éireann and Bus Éireann as member companies. Each Chair Designate will have the opportunity to outline the priorities and challenges for the respective companies in the immediate period ahead and into the future.”

“The meeting will serve to contribute to transparency in appointments to State boards and a transcript of the discussions will be sent to the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to assist in his final decision in the appointment processes.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 9 July at 9:30 am in Committee Room 4, LH 2000. The meeting can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
